What gradient should the ramp be?

What gradient should the ramp be?

Some wheelchair users have manual wheelchairs which they prefer to self-propel. In this case a 1:12 gradient ramp is required (4 degrees). If the wheelchair user will be assisted or has an electric-powered wheelchair or scooter, then a 1:8 gradient is fine (7 degrees). If the ramp will be used for industrial use or loading equipment, a 1:6 gradient is sufficient (9 degrees). Of course, the shorter the ramp, the steeper it will be, so a longer ramp is always the safer option.
