SUE CARNELL
“I WOULDN’T BE WITHOUT IT!”

Roll-a-Ramp, a simple yet innovative device now available in the UK, has radically improved the lives of wheelchair user Sue Carnell and her husband David.

The couple, who purchased the portable ramp after seeing it demonstrated at the 2002 Independent Living Show in London, confirm that it has proven useful beyond all expectations.

“As well as being extremely stable and reliable, it is also light enough to be easily moved around”, says David. Sue, who suffers from MS, and has been totally dependent on her wheelchair over the last four years says: “Also, it is the only ramp we have seen that is flexible and bends, making it an extremely versatile product that can be used nearly everywhere.”

The award winning ramping system, designed to make the lives of people with impaired mobility and their families easier, is simply rolled out into position whenever needed and, when finished with, rolled or folded up for convenient storage. Fabricated of lightweight yet extremely strong anodised aluminium, it holds up to 900kg of distributed weight.

“When at home, I have the ramp set up so that I easily can get in and out of the bungalow, and when leaving the house, we always take the ramp with us in the car, so that it is there for any eventuality. It has made it so much easier for us to go to places that may not be specially adapted for wheelchair users, such as when visiting friends and family or when going out to theatres and restaurants,” Sue says.

As an example, she mentions a recent episode where one of their friends had forgotten to check whether the restaurant they were meeting in was adapted for wheelchair users. On arrival, the ramp, which was stored in the boot of the car, came in handy, impressing both guests and waiters. It was rolled out in a matter of minutes, ensuring that Sue could get on with her social life, without any of the inconvenience or embarrassment an incident such as this might easily have caused.

“ You don’t realise how great it is until you have tried one”, says Sue. “ But one thing is certain: now that I’ve got one, I just wouldn’t be without it!”

The ramp, which comes with a 10-year warranty, is available in two standard widths to any length required and comes with carrying straps for transportation and storage. Ramps and extra sections are available direct from Roll-a-Ramp. Strong and durable, it is said to be the perfect solution to any access problem.
