ROLL-A-RAMP CHECKS IN
Going for gold at Hotelympia 2004 is Roll-a-Ramp, a revolutionary new portable ramping system being shown for the first time to the hotel and leisure industry at the show. Extremely simple to use, it can be put in position in a matter of minutes. Conveniently rolled up or folded for easy storage, the ramp comes with a 10-year warranty.

In October 2004, the new Disability Discrimination Act makes it compulsory to provide adequate access for people with disabilities. Hoteliers and restaurateurs can now offer customers with mobility problems smooth, comfortable and safe access, without hindering entry for the able-bodied.

What’s more, because Roll-a-Ramp meets DDA requirements in most cases, problems associated with planning permission for expensive permanent solid incline structures are removed.

This makes it particularly valuable in areas of historical importance, listed buildings, traditional seafront establishments and the like. Fabricated of lightweight yet tremendously strong anodised aerospace aluminium, the highly adaptable ramp is easily moved around to provide access into and out of buildings and vehicles, as well as up and down steps and over awkward thresholds and rough ground. It is a convenient multipurpose tool for use in hotels and catering environments, where heavy items such as catering trolleys and quantities of food, drink and equipment frequently need to be manoeuvred around.

Andrew Cohen, Roll-a-Ramp Director, comments: “The fact that Roll-a-Ramp can guarantee quick and problem-free access for people with impaired mobility means that a wide range of hotel and leisure facilities can become available to people who previously might not have considered visiting. An economical and practical access solution, the fact that it can hold up to 1000kg of distributed weight means that it can also be put to use for such things as moving equipment.”

To meet individual requirements, two simple tools are provided – an Allen key and a spanner – which are all that is needed to adjust the overall length by removing or adding sections. For added safety, reflectors and yellow rubberised pinch guards are fitted between the individual links and the sharply contrasting black and yellow colours provide easy visibility for people with impaired vision.

Fully adjustable, with optional handrails, Roll-a-Ramp is available either as a two-ramp system, or a wide-base single ramp for wheelchairs, motorised scooters and as an in-place access ramp. Both models feature built-in safety ridges that help to prevent wheels from slipping off the ramp surface, which is perforated to allow excess water to drain away in rainy conditions. Roll-a-Ramp is available to any length required and comes with carrying straps for transportation and storage. Ramps and extra sections are available direct from Roll-a-Ramp
