Access to Buildings (Disability Discrimination Act)
The Disability Discrimination Act (1995) states that by October 2004 all establishments to which the public have access i.e. shops, offices, places of entertainment, institutions, schools etc., etc., must provide a facility for access by the disabled.

In very many cases it is neither practical nor possible to install a "fixed" ramp system and this is where Roll-a-Ramp can assist the building owner, the facility manager etc., to comply with the Act. Having Roll-a-Ramp "available" for deployment by a member of staff, receptionist, shop manager etc., will not only help in meeting the requirement to make reasonable adjustments but also demonstrate the appropriate regard for the needs of disabled people.. When rolled up the ramps take up very little space and therefore can be used on an "as required" basis.

Sue Maynard Campbell MBE is Managing Director of Equal Ability Limited. A qualified solicitor she heads one of the leading disability consultancies in the UK. Sue has trained, consulted and researched on disability as an equality issue for over 10 years. She is author or co-author of a number of publications including reports on barriers to inclusion for disabled people. Sue is an Associate of the Employers’ Forum on Disability, and until March 2002 chaired the Advisory Committee for Disabled People in Employment and Training ACDET).

In this role she was also on the steering group for the National Adult Learning Survey 2000 and 2001 and is currently on the New Deal for Disabled People Extension Evaluation Advisory Group. She remains on the National Client Forum for Access to Work. She has also been Vice-Chair of a Community and Mental Health NHS Trust. Her specific brief there was quality and user involvement. Sue is a member of various disabled people’s organisation, and chaired the Association of Disabled Professionals from 1993 to 2000.

Through her extensive networks in the disability field - as well as having to ensure her own needs as a working electric wheelchair and PA user are met! - Sue has gained extensive experience of the employment needs and aspirations of disabled people.
